One of the first things people ask you when you meet is “so what do you do?” Our society revolves around career/job/work. People will judge your success by how much money you make, your job title, your work accomplishments, and just by your type of work. Being unemployed or lacking a career is looked at as a negative thing but being retired is positive because you’ve put in your time.
What happens when you don’t buy into the norm? What would happen if the world measured your success by the lives you touch, the art you create, the peace you bring? What happens when you are stripped down to just you?
I’ve quit my job, my career, and sold my business. I say I’m retired because it is more acceptable, but I am not done “working.” I still have purpose. I still have lives to touch, art to create, and peace to bring. I’m not self-employed, I’m self-actualized.
Food for thought to be discussed over wine with great friends.
